RE's Spring Report

Happy Easter and Happy Spring! What a beautiful day it is as I sit down to write this report. Early church and an egg hunt with my grandchildren have inspired me to tell each of you how blessed I feel to be living in a country where we are free to worship as we choose and it is safe to hunt eggs in the yard. I am so thankful for our men and women in uniform that choose to protect these freedoms. Let us never forget to thank them when the opportunity arises.

I am very pleased to report that our year is starting out better than anticipated. We have come through an IRS Audit with flying colors and were even complimented on our meticulous record keeping. I want to publicly thank Gwen Jackson for keeping our office in tiptop shape. She spends many hours consulting with our accountant and is very mindful of her record keeping. I appreciate her more than she will ever know.

The Solo folks, under the new leadership of Meredith Najewicz and Team Solo, have already had several successful events and it looks like their year is going to be as good as they projected. Please make sure to visit our website atlantascca.org and click the Solo link to keep up with all their activities.

The race program, under Butch Kummer’s more than capable direction, is also doing as well as projected, maybe even a little better! The Inaugural Trans Am Race last month at Road Atlanta turned out to be better than we imagined. It was an awesome weekend with beautiful weather and I believe all in attendance had a great time. We were honored to have our new SCCA President Jeff Dahnert in attendance. Larry got him out on the track in the pace car and then let him make a few laps driving the Ford Mustang, which was so graciously provided by Green Ford in Gainesville, Ga. I believe he enjoyed himself, especially coming out from under the bridge! Larry can fill you in on that if you’re curious. I want to thank Jim Murphy whom let Jeff ride with him during the PDX. Jeff was looking forward to driving in the PDX, but obligations prevented him from being able to drive. Jeff, the door is always open for you to return for a PDX; I’ll even waive your fee!

I had the privilege of attending the SCCA National Convention in Las Vegas February 19-22 and it was a wonderful informative trip. Last year, at the direction of Jim Julow, we began having quarterly Jumbo Region conference calls. One idea that came from those calls was to have meetings designed for Jumbo regions at the convention. The great thing about that idea is that many smaller regions attended those meetings and were able to take away ideas and information that will help them grow and run their regions more effectively. I can honestly say that this was one of the more informative meetings that I attended. I must confess that the penny Monopoly slot machine called my name all week. Saturday morning before one of my jumbo meetings I gave in to temptation. I went out on a limb put in $5. The train choo-choo’d and the bells rang and darn if I did not walk away with $527.15! I pocketed the $500 and later in the day I gave them back the $27.15 but what a fun time I had.

We have many activities coming up and I’d encourage you to check the website frequently for news of upcoming events. Our next Membership Meeting will be held at Road Atlanta Saturday evening July 18th. This will be our 3rd annual Susan G. Komen Foundation cookout/fundraiser/membership meeting. If you would like to attend, please email me. I will provide you with instructions on how to get in the track for the dinner and meeting. I’d also like to encourage you to come up that weekend and volunteer to do something to help the region. We need workers in every specialty and we can always use some helpers to prepare dinner. Think about it and contact me if you are interested.

As always, I thank you for the opportunity to be your RE. I try to do my best, which I know is not always the best but I’m human. I look forward to a wonderful spring with lots of club activities.

My best to you and your family.
