Well the summer has gone and the children are back in school – the days sure do fly by when you are having fun. Our region has had a busy summer with Solo and Racing hosting Charity Events in the month of July.
July 11th marked the 2nd Annual RGP Fest. It was a nighttime Solo along with Food, Fellowship and the opportunity to help a Charity that is close the hearts of RPG. The Atlanta Region Solo community raise over $1700.00 to donate to the Mike Peterson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
I did not know Mike personally but I did some research and found this information written by his parents. “We established this fund to create a way to assist students enrolled in automotives at area vocational schools. Mike's true passion, besides life itself, was automotives. We believe that the best way to memorialize Mike is by helping others who share Mike's passion pursuing an education in this field. The success of the MPMSF has allowed us to assist numerous students at North Metro Technical College and Chattahoochee Technical College. We have also contributed to the North Metro College Foundation Fund." I am so proud of our Solo Program and its leadership – they are the best! Make sure to check the Solo tab on our website to keep up with all they are doing. Keep up the good work Guys and Gals.
July 18th-19th was our Annual Susan G Komen Charity Weekend Event. We hosted a Double SARRC Race, a Pro-IT Race and a PDX. We had our annual Cookout / Membership Meeting and fed about 200. A very special thanks to Tom Sprecher and Kirt from Team Weird for all their help with setting up and cooking, you guys are the greatest. We were able to raise approximately $2800 to donate to the charity with the help of our “Lovely Ladies” and the generous donation by Craig Walker of his hand made cherry hall table/Mirror set and 2 gun cases. Make sure to visit our website and look at the pictures from the evening they are definitely memorable.
Labor Day weekend found both Solo and Race very busy! Many of our solo competitors headed to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Solo National held September 8 -11th, I do not know at the time of writing this how our folks did but I am sure regardless of how they finished they enjoyed the event and fellowship with the other competitors from around the country. Alabama and Atlanta Regions co-sanctioned the Labor Day Double SARRC and Pro-IT races at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. I was not able to attend the event this year because of family obligations but I do understand the weather could have cooperated better - however, all in all, it was another great event. Make sure to read about both of these events on the website.
We have our Annual Nominations Meeting just around the corner; the information is posted on the website. This is your opportunity to run for an office and I encourage anyone with an interest to come out and put your hat in the ring.
Please make sure to check both the website frequently to keep up with all the Region activities and as always I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your RE –
See you soon!
