RE's August Report

Tere PulliamWhat a great summer we’ve had! Yes, it’s been another hot and dry one but the Club still survives and events continue to happen.

The club as a whole is doing very well - Bob Hudson is doing a great job as Membership Chairman and we continue to add new members while trying to retain our great base of committed members.

I’m sorry to report that I have not had any correspondence from Solo – I do know they continue to hold events, but I cannot report on the success or failure of the program. I will know something in my next report.

Our race program is doing well. As you would expect, our numbers are somewhat down due to the economy. However, we feel certain that at the end of the year we will have still done very well.

The club held its annual Susan G Komen fund raising event at Road Atlanta the weekend of July 19 – 20, 2008. We fed approximately 175 people and raised over $3300.00!  A special thanks to all the people who helped me organize this.  I’m afraid to name names for fear of forgetting someone however, thanks to Larry, Tom, Woodrow, Karyn and of course “Team Weird”! I love you all!! Bob Hudson was crowned “King of the all Girl Turn” by raising a whopping $900+. The runners up were two lovely “ladies” - Jeremy Turmin who raised $700+ (a friend, not even a family member, of Lynn Allen) and John Sayer (a corner worker) who raised $300+.  We also had a wonderful donation from the Mazda Club’s “Zoom Fest” Group of over $150.00.

We sincerely hope your club will continue to join us in “fighting for the cure” in the coming years. Thank you so much for your participation! We also did Track Touring on Saturday as part of our fund raising and the participation was incredible!  If you saw me “glistening” (never sweating), you’ll know what I am talking about. We raised over $900 via the Track Touring event. We really appreciate all who took advantage of that fun opportunity. BTW, watch out because rumor has it that there’s more Track Touring to come!!!!

Right now, I’m preparing for our wonderful Labor Day event coming up at theend of August, first of September. I’ll be the Chief of Registration, so please remember to cut me some slack! Atlanta Region will be teaming up with Alabama Region for this event, so look for this to be the first of an incredible new Labor Day Race Tradition.

The SCCA Board of Directors and RE and slate of officer nominations meeting will be coming up in the next couple of months. Please visit the website often to keep up with the latest news.

As always - I thank you for allowing me to be your RE. It’s not only a privilege but it’s fun!!

Tere Pulliam
